Cameron Hume served as U.S. ambassador to Algeria, to South Africa, and to Indonesia. During other assignments as a Foreign Service Officer he worked at the United Nations, in Tunisia, Libya, Lebanon, Sudan, Syria, and at the Holy See. He was a guest scholar at the Council on Foreign Relations, at the US Institute for Peace, and at Harvard University. He has published three books on international relations. His current work as an international business consultant has included resolving environmental conflicts, giving management advice to the U.S. AFRICOM Headquarters, and advising NOAA on ocean exploration.
