Tony Wenas was the President and Chief Executive Officer of PT Vale Indonesia
(formerly International Nickel Indonesia Tbk./INCO), the largest lateritic nickel mine in
the world. He then voluntarily resigned from such position and was approved by the
shareholders in September 2011.
Immediately prior to joining PT Vale Indonesia, Mr. Wenas was Director & Executive
Vice President/General Counsel of PT Freeport Indonesia, an affiliate of Freeport
McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. He joined PT Freeport Indonesia in June 2001.
Mr. Wenas had served as the acting Executive Director of the Indonesia Mining
Association in 2004. In the same year, he was appointed Vice Chairman of the Permanent
Committee of Mineral Resources of the Indonesia Chambers of Commerce (KADIN).
Since 2009, he has served as Vice Chairman of KADIN’s Permanent Committee of
Investment and a member of the US-Indonesia Bilateral Commission of KADIN. Until
2007, he was a member of the National Economic Recovery Commission (KPEN). Tony
Wenas also currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Indonesia Mining Association
(IMA), Chairman of Brazil Committee of KADIN, Vice Chairman of Korean Committee
of KADIN, and Vice Chairman of Indonesian Listed Companies Association.
Mr. Wenas obtained his Bachelor of Law (majoring in Business Law) from the
University of Indonesia in 1985 and, from 1981 to 1984, studied in the Faculty of
Economics at the same school, and went to MIT Sloan School of Management.
